The Peasant Prince Audition Call Out
Monkey Baa will be holding auditions at ARA Darling Quarter Theatre in Sydney from the 11th-13th October 2023 for the 2024 National tour of our production, Li Cunxin’s The Peasant Prince.
The Peasant Prince tells the rags to riches true story of a Chinese peasant boy, Li Cunxin, who at the age of ten was plucked from millions of other students across China to be trained as a ballet dancer. Li controversially defected to the USA from China and went onto to become of the world’s greatest dancers.
Engagement Duration: April to September 2024.
Who We're Looking For: Actors of CHINESE DESCENT, aged 21 and over:
ACTOR 1: Cunxin – Male/Male Identifying
ACTOR 2: Niang, Gao, Clare – Female/Female Identifying
ACTOR 3: Dia, Teacher Xiao, and more – Male/Male Identifying
ACTOR 4: Bandit, Cunfar, and other roles – Male/Male Identifying
All Auditionees Must:
Sydney-based with a verifiable Sydney address.
Over the age of 21.
Possess a full driver’s license (non-negotiable).
Either double-vaccinated for Covid-19 or have a valid medical exemption.
Audition Details: Auditions are in person from the 11th-13th October 2023 at the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre. Self-tapes will not be accepted. Call-back participants will partake in a group audition with a physical component alongside our Movement Director. Please wear attire that facilitates ease of movement. This combined text and movement session is anticipated to last approximately 75 minutes.

Key Dates:
Auditions: October 11th-13th, 2023 (including call-backs on 13th).
Rehearsals: April 13th - May 2nd, 2024.
First Show: May 3rd, 2024.
Sydney Seasons: May 4th-8th and May 9th-22nd, 2024.
Tour Part I: May 23rd - June 22nd, 2024.
Break: June 24th - July 15th, 2024 (unpaid).
Tour Part II: July 16th - September 25th, 2024.
Fees: $1,300.00 per week for rehearsals and $1,350.00 per week for performance, plus all travel, allowances, 11% superannuation and annual leave. This is a No Sunday PCA Engagement. Engagement is split into two contracts with a 3 week unpaid break.
