In this lively workshop, students will leap into the world of Josephine Wants to Dance, a heartwarming story about a kangaroo with big dreams and even bigger moves. Guided by our expert Teaching Artists, students will explore drama and dance, learning how physicality and expression bring Josephine’s story to life.

Through hands-on activities, students will discover how to use their bodies to tell a story, experimenting with dance movements, drama exercises and character development. They’ll explore the themes of self-belief, perseverance and creativity as they bring Josephine's journey to the stage.

Each one-hour session is tailored to students from Early Learning to Year 4, with content adjusted to suit their age and needs. Workshops can accommodate up to 30 students at $15 + GST per student, with a minimum charge of $300.

  • Dance: Through dance activities, students explore rhythm, movement and coordination, learning how to express emotions and story through physicality. They develop skills in spatial awareness, balance and creativity as they embody Josephine's dance aspirations.

English

The workshop supports the English curriculum by fostering early literacy, communication skills and creativity through interactive storytelling.

  • Narrative Understanding: Students examine key story elements such as character, plot and setting, exploring Josephine's development and the themes of determination and following one's dreams.

  • Language and Expression: Students use both verbal and physical expression to communicate ideas and emotions, developing their understanding of how language and movement work together to tell a story.

Through collaborative drama and dance activities, students develop valuable interpersonal skills and enhance their self-awareness.
