Say Hello to some of our amazing Teaching Artists
Our team of Teaching Artists travel all over Australia, running workshops and bringing the magic of theatre to young people everywhere. Whether on one of our national workshop tours or in a local school or library, these wonderful artists build confidence through creativity and play. Meet Branden, Julia and Mathew, and hear what they have to say about the power of theatre workshops for young people.
What's the most rewarding part of leading workshops for young people?
Seeing the confidence that comes with storytelling. When young people are given the agency to express their point of view, they blossom right in front of you, and it's amazing to witness. By the end of a workshop, l often have students excitedly approach me with questions and responses that weren't necessarily there before, which shows the transformative effect engaging with drama can have on a young person.
Branden Christine
What's one great thing young people often take away from workshops?
The one thing young people take away from these workshops is the understanding that they matter. They have something unique to contribute, something valuable in an uncertain world. Their expression is entirely their own, and it's something no one can ever take away from them.
Julia Davis
Why is it important to introduce young people to the arts through workshops?
When young people participate in workshops, they are given the chance to experience the best aspects of a performance career: collaborating in a team to unlock the full range of creative possibilities. The world is their oyster in a workshop; we simply provide the framework, and it's the young person who takes the inspiration and creates art from their heart. We encourage teamwork, celebrate all responses, and support every interpretation. We inspire them to believe that anything is possible — because it is!
